Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

I am so pissed off at Google Maps – and myself. I should know better than to trust any electronic bimbo when driving a 60’ rig that is 13.5’ tall!
As I loaded the destination in Google Maps, I saw a notification, something to the effect of “…this route avoids a closure of I-15 but is still the fastest route, blah blah blah.” Ok, so cool, good to know ahead of time. I had driven through many construction zones along I-90 where traffic was directed to one lane, so I wasn’t surprised. As I got closer to the area of the “closure,” again, traffic was diverted to one lane again. After a few miles of one lane, Google tells me to exit. OK, so I exit. This must be a situation where I-90 and I-15 are one in the same. I’m also wondering at this time why all those other drivers DIDN’T exit when there was a closure up ahead. (But truthfully, I had experienced this in Houston and it wasn’t fun at all.) It was a little confusing because of all the barriers and construction, but as I made a left on what looked like a small-town side street, I was a sign that read “low bridge.” SHIT!! Not good!! I did a quick assessment and saw a parking lot on the right that I could pull into and assess the situation. Turned out to be adjacent to a truck stop. WHEW! It could have been so much worse, with no chance for escape. Trying to negotiate a U-turn with this rig would be a nightmare, and probably end up in a disaster or two.
As I settled into a safe parking area, I searched the internet for I-15 closures, all I found was one back in February due to a blizzard! GRRRR! Maybe the person responsible for updating Google Maps didn’t do so since then?? I don’t know. I did take the opportunity to top off my fuel so I wouldn’t have to stop, for fuel anyway, until my stop in Billings. WHEW! One misadventure averted!
